Son of Mrs. Elizabeth V. Cook who resided in Bristol, Pennsylvania.

James served as a Staff Sergeant, 33rd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Bucks County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 1, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Single, with dependents.

James was a passenger on C-47B #43-16343 which was flying from Tacloban, Philippines to Angaur, Palau during the war.

C-47B #43-16343 was assigned to the 70th Troop Carrier Squadron, 433rd Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force. The plane went missing, cause unknown.

James was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight when it failed to arrive at Angaur.

He was previously awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
