Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 26, 1946.

Joseph served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24J #42-64104, 24th Combat Mapping Squadron, 8th Photographic Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in San Juan County, New Mexico prior to the war.

B-24J #42-64104 took off, with a crew of 5 & 8 passengers, from Gushkara AAF Base, India on a fuel & ferrying mission to Sookerating Airdrome, Assam. After safely arriving at Sookerating & the fuel was removed & the passengers disembarked they took off, empty except for the 5 crew members, to return to Gushkara. They were not seen nor heard from again.

Joseph was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight during the war.
