Our beloved son, Bennie Kahua Cook, 43, of Kealakekua, Hawaii, left us on October 31, 2005. He succumbed from injuries sustained in a fall into a ravine on the Kona Coast of the Island of Hawaii. Ben was a free spirit who loved working hard and playing hard. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.He is survived by his parents, Lonnie K. and Judy D. Cook, of Marysville, Washington; grandmother, Eloise Jordan, of Marysville; brothers, Manley K., of Tempe, Arizona, Gregory K., of Keaau, Hawaii, Kenneth S., of Edmonds, Washington, and Michael K., of Mill Creek, Washington; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces on the mainland and in Hawaii; and by his special friend, Karen Kudlo, in Kealakekua, Hawaii. Bennie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Clyde and Evelyn Berry, of Boise, Idaho.Born in Portland, Oregon, on April 1, 1962, he attended schools in Portland, Oregon, Boise, Idaho, and Edmonds. Ben graduated from Mariner High School in 1980. He then joined his four brothers in the family business as a high steel painter and industrial sandblaster, repairing bridges, water tanks, towers and ships. He was also an accomplished sand carver of wood signage for Tourism and Commerce and has work displayed from Alaska to Hawaii.Ben's earlier hobbies were skateboarding and rebuilding, restoring and driving old Volkswagen Beetles.Later moving to the Kona Coast of the Island of Hawaii, he enjoyed the simple Hawaiian country lifestyle with his extended family and friends.A celebration of life will be held in his honor at the New California Tavern, Marysville, Washington. A celebration of his life will also be held at Pu'u Honua O' Honaunau (The Place of Refuge) on the Island of Hawaii where his remains will be placed along with his maternal grandmother and other ancestors.Aloha, Bennie, You are with us forever.
