Gary A. Cooke, 77, beloved husband, fa­ther, grandfather and friend to many, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the hus­band of the late Jean (Costello) Cooke.

Mr. Cooke was born in New York City Jan. 15, 1931, son of the late Arthur Cooke and Florence (McAdam) Cooke Hepp. He at­tended Crosby High School and Post Col­lege and was a U.S. Army vet­eran having served during the Ko­rean War. He retired in 1996 from the Summit Corp. of America in Thomaston where he worked as a salesman for more than 33 years.

Mr. Cooke was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Oakville VFW Post No. 7330, and the Wolcott American Legion Post 0165. Mr. Cooke is survived by his chil­dren, Gary F. Cooke and his wife, Cyndi, of Mooresville, Ind., Deborah Cooke Matarazzo and her husband, John, of Old Lyme, Quinn Cooke of Los Angeles, Calif., Gretchen Cooke Burksa of Cheshire, and Adam Cooke and his wife, Anke, of Plainville; and six grandchildren, Jason and Jesse Matarazzo, Kelsey Cooke, Scotty Burksa, and Gavin and Nolan Cooke.

Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Mur­phy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St. Burial with military honors will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Water­town. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Ancient Order of Hibernians will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial con­tributions may be made to: Bridge­port Hospital Foundation, atten­tion: Burn Unit, 267 Grant St., Bridgeport 06610.
