ONEONTA _ One Hundred Seven year old Marguerite Cooke Bolton of Oneonta, was born in Schenevus on July 15, 1904, the daughter of G. Floyd and Minerva Cooke. Rite passed on at 6:10 a.m. Dec. 31, 2011, of old age at Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

In 1925, she was married to Danforth Dean Bolton in Oneonta.

Marguerite graduated with a teaching certificate from Oneonta Normal School (aka SUCO) in 1925. She worked for a short time as a teller at the Oneonta Savings and Loan, but most of her life she was a homemaker and spent her life, time and efforts in personal and philanthropic support of others, God, family, friends, community, country, children and those in need.

During World War II she supported Denise, a child in France, with whom she kept in touch for over 60 years. The local Boy Scouts of America made Marguerite an "Honorary Boy Scout" in recognition of her interest, involvement and philanthropic activities with the Otschodela Council of the BSA for many years.

As a member of the Fox Hospital Auxiliary she volunteered in the Fox Nursing Home. She was an 80-year member of Martha Chapter 116, Order of the Eastern Star and a past district officer of the Order of the Amaranth. She was a life member in the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the PEO Sisterhood.

Marguerite was a very involved member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent and a member of the Women's Society now UMW.

Rite had many collections some of which were shells she and Dan collected in Treasure Island, Fla., where they spent many winters. She also had a collection of Madonna and Child, toy mice, and after moving to the Fox Nursing Home she acquired many replicas of light houses.

She is survived by two nephews and one niece, Landin Irving Van Buren of Oneonta, Robert Gurney Bolton of Green Valley, Ariz., and Ruth Bolton Brand of Southbridge, Mass.; along with their families.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dan, who died in 1990, in an auto accident.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. The Rev. Teressa Sivers will be officiating.

In the spring, Rite will be interred in the Bolton plot in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
