wife of George O. Clark

Charles Cooke of Harwinton married Jane Hand of Litchfield 01 Dec 1847 and had Ellen in 1850 and Clara in 1853. The family lived in the Burr owned house at 2997 Torringford Street while Charles was employed at the Burr Brickworks on Hayden Hill Road; a road once connected to these two places. Hiram Burr, son of Russell Burr. and grandson of John Burr Sr. was running the brickworks at that time. In 1858 Cooke bought the farm of Warren Nelson Roberts at 3828 Torringford Street when Roberts went to Ohio to study to be a clergyman. In their time this was a prized farm. After then it fell on hard times. George Clark was a son of Orlando Clark of Barkhamstead. Ellen died young and her widower John Farnham moved to Thomaston. I have found reference to a George W, Cooke and a John Cooke also having lived on the farm. In 1852 George W. Cooke was renting the Burr owned house at 189 Old Burrville Road. He later ran a dry goods store in Torrington.
