Eugene Cooney, the Great Falls Lad Who was Drowned, Found Floating on Lake Sewell
Helena, Mont, Aug 10-The mystery surround the disappearance of Eugene B. Cooney, the 10 year old son of E.H. Cooney, of Great Falls, was cleared away early this morning when Fred Sanders and Ernest Douglass, two of the searchers who had been employed to patrol Lake Sewell, found the body of the missing child floating on the waters of the lake about half a mile above Canyon Ferry. When found, the body had very few clothes, nothing except a pair of overalls, an undershirt and a pair of socks. The body having been in the water six days, was in bad condition.
The remains of the lad were brought to Helena this afternoon, and this evening, accompanied by a large number of relatives, the body was taken to Great Falls where the funeral will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
The finding of the body was the result of an extensive and very thorough search. The boy was undoubtedly drowned late Tuesday afternoon but the search for him was not commenced until Wednesday night when relatives of the child became alarmed by the discovery of the empty boat. From Wednesday night until this morning the lake was patrolled by boats while the surrounding country was scoured, the theory of some being that the boy had left the boat and had become lost in the mountains.
