Hamilton F. Corbett Dies Following Brief Illness

A son of one of Oregon's most prominent pioneer families, Hamilton Forbush Corbett, died Saturday evening at St. Vincent Hospital. He had suffered a short illness.

Mr. Corbett, last grandson of early U.S. Senator Henry Winslow Corbett, held a number of civic and social posts during his lifetime, including presidencies of the Portland Chamber of Commerce, the Arlington Club and the Waverly Country Club.

He was a past director of Pacific International Livestock Exposition. Mr. Corbett was a life member of the University Club.

The son of Henry Jaggar and Helen Ladd Corbett, Hamilton Corbett was born in Portland Dec. 13, 1888, attended Portland Academy and Harvard University, from which he was graduated in 1911.

Mr. Corbett served as a captain in the Field Artillery of the 42nd Division during World War 1 in France.

His business interests were as widespread as his civic contributions. Mr. Corbett was director of the First National Bank of Oregon from 1924 to 1932, president of the Security Savings and Trust Co., from 1929 to 1932, president of the Calgon Oil Co., and treasurer and trustee of the Columbia River Paper Mills and director of its paper company.

State Duty Listed

Early in his career, Mr. Corbett served a brief term as state representative from 1917 to 1918. He had worked with his brothers, Henry Ladd and Elliott Ruggles Corbett, now deceased, in operating the Corbett Investment Co., Portland, which he headed in recent years.

Survivors include the widow, Charlotte Breyman Corbett and a daughter, Harriet of Philadelphia. Funeral service is pending.
