OBITUARY: Evelyn Coward Allen (1927-2005)
Evelyn Coward Allen, 77, wife of Julian B. Allen, died Sunday, February 20, 2005 at her home.
Born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late David Lee Coward and the late Ruth Taylor Coward.
Mrs. Allen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy and received her master's degree in Adult Education from the University of South Carolina. She was formerly employed by Sumter School District #17.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; four daughters, Julie Allen of Sumter; Katie A. Hutchens and husband Dr. Thomas P. Hutchens of Bismarck, North Dakota, Beth A. Edwards of Sumter, and Janie A. Kirkland and husband Steve Kirkland of Chapin; six grandchildren, Lauren Edwards, Allen Edwards, Dan Hutchens, Elizabeth Hutchens, Sarah Talley and Will Talley.
Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the Easter Seal Society, Cerebral Palsy Foundation, P. O. Box 128, Columbia, S. C. 29202-0128 or to Friends of the Library, in care of the Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin Street, Sumter, SC 29150.
