Betty L. Allgood, 88, of Grinnell died May 22, 2012, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Nick Adam, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Organist will be William Tinker. Pallbearers will be Marty and Joe Jordan, Denny, Doug, Mark, Aaron and Jason Allgood, and Steve and Randy Hanssen. Readers will be Jackie Jordan and Melanie Allgood. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Manor Foundation or St. Mary's Catholic Church Foundation.

Betty was born January 18, 1924, in Belle Plaine, Iowa the daughter of Lee and Mary Ann (Mamie) Collum Cram. She later moved to Brooklyn where she received her education.

On January 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ivan "Jim" Allgood, in Brooklyn. The couple farmed near Malcom before moving to Grinnell in 1955. While in Grinnell she was employed at several businesses including Claire's Cleaners and Danish Maid. She moved to Wilton in 1967 where she was employed at CDS in various capacities and departments. She retired in 1987 and the couple returned to Grinnell. For 10 years they enjoyed wintering in Chandler, Arizona.

Betty enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings. She took great pride in providing for her family and nurturing her children. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a gentle woman, kind and unassuming. She loved traveling and made good use of her retirement.

Survivors include three children, Jim (Mary Jane) of Ankeny, Jack of Grinnell, and Carol Jordan of Grinnell; one brother, Robert Cram of Chandler, Arizona; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister; three brothers; one grandchild, Jarod Adam Allgood; a son-in-law, Robert Jordan; and a daughter-in-law, Dixie Allgood.
