Josephine C. Byrne of Bloomfield, wife of the late James E. Byrne Sr. passed away peacefully on May 10, 2016.

She was born on August 25, 1921 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, second daughter of the late James Alphonsus and Lucy Whitener Crimmins.

Josephine graduated from Notre Dame High School and went on to McKenzie Business School. She worked for Joy Floral Company as a bookkeeper and designer/florist for many years.

Josephine and "Jimmy" were married on June 17, 1950. Jim's job with Combustion Engineering Company took them from Chattanooga TN, to New Rochelle NY, to Colonial NJ before settling down in Bloomfield in 1960 and she was active at Sacred Heart Church for the rest of her life. Josephine served as chairperson of the ways and means committee of the Tabernacle Society; a Eucharistic Minister; chairperson of Women's Guild; chairperson of the Cadillac raffle and the annual Father/Son and Mother/Daughter dinners; chairperson of the dinners for the homeless and served as the parish bookkeeper from 1980 until 2013. She was the President of Interfaith Homes Corporation of Bloomfield and served on the town Human Relations Committee. She also served as the President of the Greater Hartford Council for Catholic Women, and served on the Archdiocesan Board of Connecticut Catholic Women and was a Catholic Family Services coordinator and a member of the Catholic Family Services Board. She chaired the Archbishop's Annual Scholarship Dinner Dance which provided scholarships for employees at Catholic Family Services. In 1981 Josephine was named by Pope John Paul II to receive the Pontifical pro Ecclesia et Pontifice award for her church and civic involvement. Josephine and her beloved Jimmy were inseparable and shared their many years of happiness with family, friends and everyone they touched.

She is survived by her son James E. Byrne Jr. and his wife Janet of Chattanooga, TN, her daughter Josephine Quintana and her husband Matthew of West Simsbury, CT, her daughter Mary Pat Byrne of Brandon, FL, and her son John Byrne and his wife Kathleen of Mentor, OH. 7 Grandchildren, Matthew and Brendan Quintana, Hannah Byrne, Madeline, Aiden and Cameron Byrne and Natasha Trudell.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters Mary Elinore Crimmins and Catherine Imelda Dean and her nephew Joseph Patrick Dean.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 18, at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave, Bloomfield, CT. Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedicts Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
