Winifred M. Broomall, age 96, of Salem, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem. She was born March 10, 1920 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of the late James and Anna (Gaughan) Cullinan.

Winifred retired from Spatholt’s Hardware in Leetonia as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and was a graduate of the Villa Maria Academy and Salem Business College.

She served in the Women’s Marines for 3 years during WWII.

Her husband, Richard W. Broomall, whom she married May 1, 1948, preceded her in death January 24, 2000; and a brother, Daniel M. Cullinan also preceded her in death.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Linda C. (Donald) Quesenberry of Woodbridge, Virginia and Gloria J. (Gary) Huntzinger of Manassas, Virginia; 2 sons, Richard A. (Nancy) Broomall of Charleston, South Carolina and Raymond E. (Deborah) Broomall of Manassas, Virginia; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Robert Edwards officiating. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be at Woodsdale Cemetery with military honors provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
