Dorcas Cunningham Allen, 99, of Plantersville, Mississippi, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at Courtyard Community Living Center in Fulton, Mississippi. She was one of twin daughters born in Kansas, Alabama in Walker County on Jan. 22, 1916, to Belle and Emory Cunningham Sr.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, from 12:30 until 2 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the Kilgore-Green Chapel, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper. Patrick Martin will officiate.

Dorcas was a graduate of Carbon Hill High School and Howard College, now Samford University, in Birmingham. The daughter of a school teacher, Dorcas taught in Carbon Hill and Walker County Schools for 34 years. She loved traveling, family vacations, gardening, reading, cooking and sewing. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Carbon Hill for many years. After moving to Tupelo, Mississippi, to be near her family, she became a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law. She was kind and generous to her children and grandchildren and loved by her students and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her much loved husband, William C. “Billy” Allen; twin sister, Frances Nix (Brunner); sisters, Charlene Oden (Emmett), Mattie Lou Patton (Vernon); and brothers, Carlos Kelley Cunningham (Melba) and Emory Cunningham Jr. (Jeanne).

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Allen Simmons (Johnny); son, Dr. Bill Allen (Denise); six grandchildren, Amy Little (Terry), Mary Scott (Michael), Karen Glover (Brad), Kirby Allen, Emory Allen and Anne Kathryn Allen; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Little, Rosemary Little, Ryan Scott, Jackson Scott, Caroline Glover, Natalie Glover and Allison Glover; and one brother-in-law, Maurice Allen (Betty).

Pallbearers will be David Allen, Nelson Allen, Barry Allen, Roger Cunningham, Jim Cunningham, David Cunningham, Eric Rogers and Chris Nix.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, 2681 Rocky Ridge Lane, Birmingham, AL, Gideons International, or your favorite charity.
