Winifred Barker, 86, of 406 East Linn Street, Marshalltown, died late Thursday night, August 11th, at her daughter's home while in care of the Iowa River Hospice. Her death came peacefully at 11:00 P.M. with family at her side. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 16th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. There will be private family prayer service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice, the Marshalltown Salvation Army or the MCC Scholarship Fund. Born on June 30th, 1919, in St. Anthony, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Roche) Curley. At a young age, her family moved to Marshalltown where she graduated from the St. Mary's High School in 1936. In 1940, she was united in marriage to Wilmer Edens in Marshalltown, In 1956 she was married to Howard E. Barker in Marshalltown. He preceded her in death on September 16th, 1994. Winifred resided most of her life in Marshalltown where she was employed by Western Grocer Mills and Fisher Controls, working in the payroll department on the 3rd Floor until her retirement in 1986. Mrs. Barker was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, enjoyed bowling, did volunteer tax preparation for the AARP and treasured her family and church. She will be greatly missed by many.
Left to celebrate her life are her four children: William "Bill" (Laurie) Edens of the Harvester at Rhodes, Vicki (the late Larry) Weaver of Marshalltown, John (Barb) Edens of Ft. Dodge and Mary Mason of Excelsior Springs, MO., 13 grandchildren: Mary Ann Edens of Atlanta, William Alan (Heather) Edens of Atlanta, Susan Ellen (Sean) Barrett of Wyoming, Todd (Holly) Chambers of Webster City, Aaron (Mary Kay) Chambers of Winterset, James (Sonya) Chambers of West Des Moines, Cherie Ann Weaver of Austin, Texas and Chad (Tina) Weaver of Marshalltown, Christina (Bill) Bass of Huxley, Iowa, Jennifer (Todd) Cummings of West Des Moines, Lisa Lyon of Marshalltown, Lacy Mason of Marshalltown and Trevor Harvey (Katy Fowler, fiancé') of Ames, 24 great-grandchildren, three sisters Sis Jamell of Marshalltown, Helen Quigley of Iowa City and Janie Kriegel of Brookings, South Dakota as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, her husband, son-in-law Larry Weaver, brother William Curley and sisters Mary Good, Jo Lovig and Ada Elliott.
