Corinna Marion Battles, 39, of Palatka, entered the sunset of life unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, following a brief illness.
A native of Straubing, Germany, she was the daughter of Helen Spells Curley and Joseph Curley Jr., born Jan. 20, 1963, during her father's active military service. She had been a Palatka resident most of her life, graduating from Palatka High School's class of 1981, and attending St. Johns River Community College. On April 4, 1976, she was baptized at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Jack A. Harrell. "Marion" was a faithful and loyal employee of the Holiday Inn, where she was the relief night auditor and a front desk clerk. She was a kind and compassionate mother who loved and cared for her three precious children. Her mother, Helen and her grandparents, Joseph and Louise Curley Sr., and Fred and Bertha Spells, all preceded her in eternal rest.
To cherish her memories: son, Leroy Trey Battles III; daughters, Brittany Ashkeia Nicole Battles and Serena Nicole Battles, all of Palatka; father, Joseph (Ruby Alma) Curley, Jr., New Orleans, La.; brother, Joseph Tyrone (Meschelle) Curley, Richmond, Va.; aunts and uncles, Jessie (C.L.) Hughes, Palatka; Freddie L. (Carla) Spells, East Palatka; James E. (Mary) Spells, Newport News, Va., Bertha Curley Warwick and Joann E. Curley, both of New Orleans; two godsisters, Brenda Lee Brinson, Angela Hughes Wright, Palatka; and a host of cousins, other relatives, classmates, co-workers, and caring friends.
Homegoing services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Alabama Ave., Palatka, the Rev. Buster Hughes Sr., Pastor. The Elder Warren E. Foster, Associate Minister, Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church is the eulogist. Interment will be in Palatka Memorial Gardens. Visitation of family and friends will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the "Chapel of Serenity." The cortege will assemble 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the family's Corbett Road residence.
