Samuel Arthur Dangerfield was supposed to have been the first white child born in Santa Monica. As a small boy he was thrown from a horse and suffered a back injury that resulted in a hunch back. He learned the shoemaker's trade and made a good living from a small shop in the back of his parent's lot. He never married and died of typhoid fever.
