Mrs. Homozel Mickel Daniel, the widow
of Daniel International Corp (Later Fluor
Corporation) founder, Charles E. Daniel,
a well-known Greenville philanthropist
died in Greenville Memorial Hospital on
June 22, 1992. She was 89. Ms. Mickel
married Mr. Daniel on 25 November 1924
and lived in Anderson, where he worked
with him at Townsend Lumber, in 1934
founded Daniel Construction, in 1935
moved with their construction company,
Daniel, with it's corporate headquarters
to Greenville in 1942, where they built
Donaldson Army-Air Force Base (then
called Greenville Army-Air Force Base.).
Mrs. Daniel was an active officer and a
director of the worldwide construction
and engineering company until its purchase
in 1977 by Fluor Corporation. A life
trustee of The Daniel Foundation,
she contributed generously to numerous
religious, charitable, scientific, literary
and educational philanthropies with
the evidence of her generosity can
be found in scholarships, endowed
professorships and buildings at
Furman University, Converse College,
and many other institutions.
Homozel Mickel was the daughter
of Homer Curtis Mickel and Leola
Alston Carter Mickel in Elberton, Ga.
in 1903.
