Cornie Burns, 94, of Sunman, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at her residence.

She was born October 30, 1918 in Owsley County, KY, to Washington and Adell (Gilbert) Daniel. Cornie married Roy Burns, Sr. on May 26, 1945 in South Lebanon, OH, and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2002.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many. Her family fondly remembers her famous chicken and dumplings. She was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Penntown.

Survivors include; daughters, Ruth Ann Lewis (special friend Jerry Martin) of Sunman, Verda M. Day of Moores Hill; sons, Roy (Mona) Burns, Jr., of Milan, Ronald Gene (Gloria) Burns, of Sunman, and David Burns of Sunman; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ruth Baker of Lawrenceburg, IN and Ruby Abner of Booneville, KY.

Cornie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy, a sister Alta Strong, and 2 brothers; Bobby Daniel and Claude Daniel.

Visitation for friends and family will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m, Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine Street, Sunman. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Tom Fehrman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman.

Memorial donations may be directed to Sunman Volunteer Fire Department and the Sunman Life Squad.
