Joseph John Danyi, age 78, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Joe was born April 21, 1933 at the Oregon, Ohio home of his parents, Joseph and Theresa Danyi. Joe had a beautiful singing voice and had the opportunity to sing for the Bishop at St. Stephen's Church and on many other occasions as a young man. A 1951 graduate of Central Catholic High School, he attended the University of Toledo and served in the US Army where he was a boxer for the Army team.
Joe was a pioneer in energy efficient home building and in the late 1970's was one of the first builders in the area to use 2x6 walls, solar panels, and to apply solar film to windows for energy conservation. He was truly a visionary and a man before his time. He was a member of River View Yacht Club and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania. Joe loved boating, reading, air planes, and building stick air planes as a hobby. One of the greatest thrills of his life was having the opportunity to fly a small plane. He was artistic and creative and will be remembered for his generosity. Joe dearly loved his children and grandchildren, his furry friend, Winston, and of course, his wife.
Joe is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marti; children, Yvonne (John) Bartlett, Jaclyn Peiffer, Ken Perz, and Christy (Nick) Eddy; grandchildren, Joclyn Bartlett, Sydney, Adam, and Alex Huntermark and Carson Perz; sister, Delores Schroeder; and brother, Robert Danyi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Theresa; and brothers, Tom, Ken, and John Danyi. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their support, generosity, caring, kindness, and "Hugs", all of which were beyond phenomenal.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-9:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will begin with prayers on Friday at 9:30am followed by a 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Sylvania, 5373 Main St. Sylvania, OH. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd. Perrysburg, OH 43551.
