Ruth Ann Arquilla, (nee Davidson), age 96, a resident of Preston Place in Redgranite, formerly of Lohrville passed away peacefully Friday morning, March 24, 2017 at Preston Place. She was surrounded by the love of her family.

Ruth was born January 26, 1921 in Redgranite, a daughter of Alex and Mary (Law) Davidson. She was raised and educated in Redgranite. She Graduated from Oshkosh Business College in 1940 following her Graduation from the Redgranite High School in 1939.

Ruth was employed as a bookkeeper in the Credit Department of Newman's Dress Shop and in the office at Swift & Co., both of Oshkosh until her marriage to Tony Arquilla on April 28, 1945 in Redgranite. Tony preceded Ruth in death September 20, 2001 following 56 years of marriage.

They had a son, Dennis Law Arquilla on February 8, 1946. Dennis passed away from Leukemia on February 6, 1959.

Tony and Ruth built the Edgewood Restaurant in Redgranite in 1955, and operated it until 1960. They then purchased the Standke Meat Market in Redgranite in 1960. Ruth and Tony operated that business as Tony's Meat Market until April of 1968. Ruth worked as a postal clerk at the Redgranite Post Office from 1972 until her retirement in 1985.

Ruth had been Redgranite Village Treasurer, and was an active member of many organizations. She was a member of the former Granite Chapter #209, Order of Eastern Star, and the Redgranite Area Women's Club. She was a dedicated worker for the Redgranite Alumni Reunion-Labor Day Committee. Ruth and Tony were the Sextons of the Redgranite Foster Road Cemetery for many years until she retired from that position due to failing health. During their tenure, they completely redid the cemetery records and plats.

Ruth was a life-long, faithful, active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Redgranite, and was a member of the Ladies Guild of the Church. She worked tirelessly on many fund raising activities for the Church, and worked on countless funeral lunches throughout the years. She had been Church Treasurer, taught Sunday School and had been Sunday School Superintendent. In their earlier years, Ruth and Tony also worked very hard taking care of the church buildings. Ruth was one of the organizers of and a dedicated worker at the Redgranite Food Pantry for 5 years until the present time.

Tony and Ruth were awarded the Redgranite Outstanding Citizen Award in 1982 in recognition of their service to the community.

Ruth was an excellent cook and baker. She loved cardinals and was very proud of her Scottish heritage. Ruth and Tony enjoyed camping, and had been members of a camping group in Wisconsin Rapids.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews, her Church family, and near and dear friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Dennis, and 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex and Lauretta Davidson and Robert and Jane Davidson.
