John Jay Davis was born on March 21, 1950 the son of Edward and Lorraine (Hegge) Davis in Minneapolis, MN. His family later moved to Kennedy, MN, where he graduated from high school.
John joined the Marines and was a Purple Heart recipient for his service in Vietnam. John completed his service with the military in 1972 and later moved to Grand Forks, ND, where he met and married Stephanie Jean Lucantonio. On April 17, 1981, John, again, became a proud father to a baby girl, Jean Lorraine.
John and Stephanie were active members in the Grand Forks community. John later served as a civilian for the Grand Forks Air Force Base until his final days.
John was a kind and caring man, adored by his grandchildren and deeply loved by all. His sense of humor kept his family strong and on their toes. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading about military history and showing his family how not to burn down the house during a barbeque, along with sharing his love of values with his grandchildren. John was a man of little words, with a giant heart and he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his companion, Stephanie; daughter, Jean Lorraine; stepdaughters, Janine (James) Bailey, Diane (Ray) Gibson, Catherine (William) Garcia; granddaughters, Megan (Kevin) Irby, McKaya Jean, Sarah Garcia; grandsons; Corey, Lorenzo, Dayton Ryan, Shawn, Steven; great grandchildren; Carmello, Artorius; brother; Charles Davis; sister, Donna (Stan) Hanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Allan Davis.
Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011 in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel. Please, join family afterwards (4:00 p.m.) at 2211 11th. Ave. N for gathering.

Interment: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Military Honors: Members of the American Legion Post 157, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota National Guard.
