OBITUARY
Great Grandchildren Are Among Survivors
Funeral service was held in St. Alban's Anglican church on Saturday, July 18, for Mrs. F. W. Appleyard, followed by interment at Glen Williams. The Rev. H. B. Stokreef conducted the services.
Mrs. Appleyard had been ill for three weeks and died at the home of her son Donald, R.R. 4, Acton. She was 78 years old.
Pallbearers were grandsons Andy, George and Lewis Stull, R.R. 5 Milton, and Douglas Townsend, Georgetown, friends Harding Price, R.R. 1, Georgetown, and Douglas Sargent, Georgetown.
Her husband predeceased her in 1950. They had five children, Don, R.R. 4, Acton; Ralph, Ottawa; Allan, Oshawa; Freda (Mrs. H. Stull) R. R. 5, Milton and Joyce (Mrs. E. M. Marchment), Glen Williams. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Came from England
She was born at Boston, Lincs, England, in 1880, and was married at Fulston, Lincs, to Frederick William Appleyard. They came to Canada from England in 1914 at the start of World War I and settled in Toronto. In several months Mr. Appleyard went back to England and started a brass foundry for making munitions.
The family had a meagre existence for about a year as the boat was sunk bringing money to these men's families in Canada.
The moved to Glen Williams in 1916. The household furniture and effects were brought by team by the late Chris Sargent of Georgetown.
One stepson served in the first World War and their oldest son in the Second World War.
She was an enthusiastic gardener even earlier this year. She made her home at Crewson's Corners for eight years.
