Mr. Dawes died Sunday at his home.
He was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Lawrence and attended Lawrence schools. He earned a bachelor's degree from Kansas University in 1946 and a master's degree from Minnesota University in 1947.
Mr. Dawes was a junior high school teacher for 27 years in Minnesota and Colorado, and a principal in Winona, Minn.
He served in the Air Force during World War II in the European Theater. Mr. Dawes moved to Edinburg after retiring. He was a member of the Edinburg First Christian Church and head elder and chairman of the board of the church.
His first wife, Delia Anderson Dawes, died in 1967.
He married Barbara Shultz Dawes in 1969, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Dea Susan Vineyard, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Glenn A. Dawes, Fort Lyon, Colo.; and a sister, Marthabeth Granstrom, Roeland Park.
