Alfred Pegg, landlord of the Sir Henry Wilmot Arms, Rivett Street, died at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary on 20th December 1900 aged 41. Two days earlier he had been working in his brewhouse on Borough’s Walk when he slipped into the mash tub of boiling water. He was taken to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary suffering from burns to his head, neck, back and legs but later died there due to blood poisoning as a consequence of his injuries.
George Pegg, his son, late Sherwood Foresters, died on 22nd November 1920 aged 33. He had been wounded in the head in France during the war and had never really recovered.
Ellen Bailey, Alfred’s wife, since remarried, died at the Sir Henry Wilmot Arms on 6th May 1932 aged 71. Her funeral took place at 12:45pm on Tuesday 10th May at St Peter’s Church, Derby.
