Daughter of Nelson and Mary (Jilson or Jillson) Dawley. (Although Lydia's death record gives her maiden name as Dawney, most other records, such as her children's birth records, show her maiden name as Dawley, and one census, when she was a child, lists her family with the spelling Dolly.) Father born in Newport, RI. Mother born in Providence, RI.

Married Alvin B. Adams, on 27 April 1860, in Franklin, Mass., as Lydia Ann Dolley. They had one son, Frank Nelson Adams, born on 24 January 1861, in Franklin, Mass. Lydia's maiden name on the birth record is given as Dawley.

In 1861, Alvin joined the 16th Massachusetts Voluntary Infantry, Company D. He was captured In battle but was exchanged and returned to his unit. On July 2, 1863, near Emmitsburg Road, in the Battle of Gettysburg, Alvin was captured again by confederate forces, possibly from Alabama or Texas. After being a prisoner in Richmond and Belle Isle, he was sent to the infamous Andersonville Prison Camp near Americus, Georgia, where he died on October 22, 1864, just six months before the War ended. His brother, Henry Clay Adams, was also a prisoner at Andersonville, however, Henry survived and returned home after the War, where he married his brother's widow.

Married Henry Clay Adams, on 13 April 1866, in Cumberland, Rhode Island. They had five children. Henry and Lydia lived in Franklin, Mass.
