Darla A. “Cookie” Ash, 68 of Leola, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at her home.

Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late George B. and Betty R. (Rettew) DeHaven. She was married 49 years on June 18 to Melvin S. Ash.

She had worked at the former SLC in the sewing and shipping departments and later for Shadow Interiors in New Holland and most recently as a waitress at various local restaurants.

She was an avid sewer and craft worker and was very involved in her Church where she was happiest worshiping and praising her savior. Her grandchildren also brought her great joy.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a step-mother, Jane (Himelwright) DeHaven of Narvon; a son, Melvin B., married to Donna (Killius) Ash of Carlisle; a daughter, Diane Rose, married to Elvin Zook of New Holland; six grandchildren, Justin, Nathan, Cordell, Evan, Caden, and Alyssa; and 15 brothers and sisters, Betty R. Main of California, George B., married to Sandy DeHaven of New Holland, Edna K., married to Morris Kinsey of Morgantown, Cathy S., widow of Richard Witwer of Narvon, Charlene W., married to David Ross of Gap, Robin S., married to William Hartman of New Holland, Kirk W., married to Wendy DeHaven of Morgantown, Shane, married to Daria Dehaven of Reading, Eric, married to Jenna DeHaven of Millsboro, DE, Earl, married to Stacy DeHaven of East Earl, Edward DeHaven of Lancaster, Ken L., married to Ruth Henry of New Holland, Thelma, married to James Coon of Millsboro, DE, Miller, married to Karen Henry of East Earl, and April Henry of New Holland.

Preceding her in death are two brothers, Kenneth Lincoln DeHaven, FAG #120552118 and Walter DeHaven.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20 at 11 am at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland with the Reverend Cody Hall officiating. Interment will be in the United Methodist Cemetery of Churchtown. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 6-8 pm and on Monday from 10-11 am at the Funeral Home.
