Belva DeHaven Akers of Winston-Salem, NC, died Wednesday, August 8. She was born in Hillsville, Virginia to the late William Thomas and Mattie Lee DeHaven. She resided in Radford, Virginia before moving to Winston-Salem in 1984. She was a member of Tyler Memorial Presbyterian Church and Radford Presbyterian Church in Radford, Virginia, and Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Guy Linford Akers; and sisters Ava Newman, Irma Adams and Artye Newman; brothers Foy DeHaven, Leonard DeHaven, and Tillman DeHaven. Belva is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Ann and Bob Reagan of Winston-Salem, NC; son Bill Akers of Blacksburg, Virginia; granddaughters Amy Eskridge and husband Matthew of Charleston, SC; Emily LeVasseur and husband Andrew of Richmond, Virginia; and great-grandchildren Winston and Ann Phillips Eskridge and Molly LeVasseur; and sister Mrs. John Fulcher of Hillsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 10:30 - 11:30 Friday, August 10, at Vaughan Guynn McGrady Funeral Home on Main Street in Hillsville. Graveside services will be at the Wilkinson Cemetery in Hillsville, Virginia. at noon on Friday, August 10. Memorials may be sent to Highland Presbyterian Church, 2380 Cloverdale Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Hospice and Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
