Mrs. Belle Begley, mother of Mrs. T. B. Smith, jr., 310 North Tenth street, died at Effingham this morning at 6:30. Death was due to a carbuncle which appeared on her neck two weeks ago. Poison from the carbuncle spread through her system. She appeared to be suffering from rheumatism and for a week had been entirely helpless. Two weeks ago last Sunday Mrs. Begley returned from St. Joe where she had been called by the illness of her daughter in law, Mrs. Michael Begley, and stopped a few hours with her daughter in Atchison and complained of a most severe headache. A few days after she reached Effingham her daughter was called to her bedside. Mrs. Begley was an orphan girl, named Belle Deacon, who was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. P. J. O'Meara, fine people of Effingham, who died a few years ago. Mr. O'Meara was Effingham's first merchant. Her foster parents were most devoted to this adopted daughter and she, in turn was a faithful and loyal daughter who tenderly nursed them, in their declining days. Mrs. Begley was the widow of Dennis Begley, who died in Atchison twelve or thirteen years ago. She was devoted to her children and her home and prominent in the work of the Catholic church at Effingham. Besides the daughter, she is survived by two sons. Michael and Dennis Begley, of St. Joe. Time of the funeral has not been announced but the burial will be in St. Ann's cemetery in Effingham.
