Florence was the eldest of six children born to Eber Woodman Deacon (1848-1939) and Rose Ellen Lehner (1865-1937) who married on 17 Aug 1884 in Marshall County, Indiana. Her siblings were Gertrude May (1887-1939), Blanche (b.1889), George (b.1891), Eunice Evelyn (b.1896) and Dorothy Ida (b.1902). She also had three half-siblings: Angie (b.1871), Pearl (b.1873) and Claude Eber (1877-1927)), the children of Eber Deacon and his first wife, Sarah Elizabeth Callen who married on 15 Mar 1871 in Marshall Co., Indiana. Elizabeth died in 1883.
On the 1900 Census, Florence's family was neighbor to her future husband Owen's family, both families living on farms in Center Township, Marshall Co., Indiana.
Florence married Owen Banks on 24 Jun 1908 in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana. The couple had five children together: Morris Deacon (1909-1990), Louis Carl (1911-1995), Fred (1915-2007), Harold O. (1918-1918) and Lloyd (b.1920).
I found the family on the 1910 Census living in Center Township where Owen was farming for a living. Only son Morris had joined the family at that point. By 1920, the family was in Union Township and Owen was working for Culver Military Academy as a stationary engineer in their power house. His work involved plumbing and steam fitting. Sons Lewis, Fred and Lloyd had joined brother Morris. Baby Harold O. was born in 1918, but died that same year from influenza.
In 1930, Owen and Florence were busy raising the four boys, Owen still working at Culver Military Academy, but by 1940, only Lloyd was still living at home with his
parents and managing the farm. Eldest son Morris had married Eleanor F. Head on 11 Jul 1937, Fred had married Edith P. Hatten on 17 Jul 1939 and Louis had married Alice Marie Sensibaugh on 26 Feb 1940. Lloyd married Theresea Margaret Perry later that same year on April 30th.
Owen, Florence's husband of forty-five years died in 1953 at age 68. Florence lived another thirty two years before being laid to rest at his side in 1985. She was five months into her 101th year.
