"God is redecorating and He only takes the most beautiful flowers." On April 21, 2009, David L. Delaney went to be with his Heavenly Father after a courageous battle with a brain tumor. David was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend who left a strong moral legacy to his loving wife, Susan (Cutillo) Delaney and three daughters, Shannon, Stefanie (Mark) Gallagher, and Suzanne. David was predeceased by his wonderful parents, Martin and Shirley Delaney and survived by his sister, Janet (Laurent) Fady, as well as many extended family members. As a young boy David attended Onondaga Central School and achieved the highest rank of Boy Scouts, by becoming an Eagle Scout. David continued on by earning his degree in Nursing from OCC and served in the US Marine Corp Reserves. David devoted over 30 years to Crouse Hospital as a registered nurse in Pediatrics. He prided himself on providing exceptional care for children and their families. He was known for going beyond his nursing duties by teaching students, supporting families and creating an environment of comfort, laughter, and sensitivity. David loved nursing, however he loved being a father and husband even more. He was often described as "Mr. Mom" due to his commitment in caring for his girls and Sue. David never missed an opportunity to be with his family and friends. He was a talented chef, who with his wife, opened their home and together they made those around feel welcomed and a part of the family. In addition to his love of people, David was a member of the Masons, an avid runner, devoted NY Yankees fan and gardener. David loved movies, music, and singing in the church choir. He touched many lives with his warm nature and caring heart. He will always be remembered as the man who "spoke from his heart" and those who knew him were truly blessed. Calling hours Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. at Grace Chapel Church, 1674 US Rte 20, Skaneateles, NY 13152 with a celebration service Saturday, 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Grace Chapel, CNY Hospice 990 7th North St. Liverpool, NY 13088 and/or the Caring Bridge at www.caringbridge.com. Please sign the guestbook at syracuse.com/obits.
