Carolyn graduated from Pontotoc High School, and she married David Andrews on May 30, 1952. They were happily married for nearly 63 years and had four children – Donna, Kevin, Keith and Mark. David and Carolyn attended Wesley United Methodist Church, and they were active in the Wesleyan Sunday school class for more than 60 years. Her son, Keith, her son-in-law, Ted Ainsworth, and her husband, David – who passed away just seven months ago – preceded her in death.
Carolyn, who catered wedding receptions with one of her best friends for years, made the best fresh coconut cake in the South. Family gatherings at her house centered on food and fellowship. The Andrews' home was always spotless – visitors were greeted with warm welcomes, sweet tea and vacuum tracks on the carpet.
Family was everything to her. She was devoted to her husband and her children. Carolyn and David worked hard to give their children every opportunity, and all three are college graduates with families of their own. She leaves behind four granddaughters, who all loved her deeply: Melissa, Kelley, Lauren and Jessica. From the moment each of them was born, she took an active role in raising them – telling them stories, singing to them, giving them advice and mending their heartbreaks. She taught them how to keep a house, how to cook a fabulous meal, and how to pick out the best antiques at any shop (Carolyn never met a piece of Goofus glass she didn't like).
Survivors include Donna Andrews Ainsworth (Tupelo), Melissa Ainsworth Moore and Jonathan Moore (Holly Springs), Mark and Janet Andrews (Bells, Tennessee), Lauren Andrews (Bells, Tennessee), Kelley Andrews (Berkeley, California), Kevin Andrews (Tupelo) and Jessica Andrews (Tupelo).
She was a special woman – tough but gentle. We'll remember her at Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, at 3 p.m. today, Dec. 9, 2015, with the Rev. Roger Puhr officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Tupelo Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to service time.
