Josephine Jamison Dixey, wife of the late Edgar Bright Dixey Jr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 surrounded by her children. Mrs. Dixey was born in Birmingham, Alabama March 9th, 1926. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cephus McPhetus Jamison and Josephine Margaret DeLaney, her sister Patricia Jamison Silvey, her brother Clement Maurice Jamison, and one daughter, DeLane Dixey Taylor. She is survived by her children, Edgar Bright (Rusty) Dixey III, Diane Dixey, Deborah Dixey, Deirdre Dixey Cootes (Randy), Minge Dixey (Tami), Devin Dixey, and Robert Dixey. She was a beloved "Granny" to numerous grandchildren, as well as two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dixey attended Auburn University under a Phi Beta Kappa scholarship where she attained a degree in Pharmacy. She was initiated into the Rho Chi Honor Society, and after she graduated worked for many years at a local pharmacy, Schweickhardt's, located in uptown New Orleans. It was at Auburn where she met the love of her life, Edgar, and the two began on a path building a family whose bonds are as strong today as ever. Mrs. Dixey was an avid reader, horticulturist, amateur chef, and high connoisseur of tasteful entertaining. She was also a loving mother, devoted wife, and a lifelong role model to her sons, daughters, and grandchildren.
