Marilyn Ann (Donat) Alligood, lost her long battle with health issues and died August 1, 2016 with her family by her side.

Marilyn was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 27, 1940 to Walter Wilber “Jack” Donat and Mercedes (Beckes) Donat who preceded her death. Also preceding her in death was a son, Joseph M. Alligood. In May of 1968, she was married to Lester “Les” Alligood by Pastor Warren Otter at Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville where Marilyn was a member.

Her husband, Les Alligood survives on Sylvan Lake near Rome City. Also surviving is her daughter, Ann Marie Alligood of Cicero, Indiana and her son, Darin Alligood of Rome City, as well as daughter-in-law, Hollie Mozena and one granddaughter, JoAnna MaeLee Alligood.

Marilyn loved nursing and became a Registered Nurse in 1962. She held many positions in nursing including: Office nursing, Hospital, Emergency Room, Surgery Supervisor, Nursing Home Administrator, County Health Nurse and her final job was as the Noble County Jail Nurse. Marilyn was most proud of starting CompreCare Home Health and Hospice for McCray Hospital. She began the program with a volunteer retired nurse and an I.C.E. student from East Noble High School, in a building owned by the hospital that did not have plumbing. CompreCare grew to employ over 400 people with offices in most northeast Indiana counties.

Marilyn loved politics and was an elected member of the Rome City Town Council. During this time she served as president of the Town Council for seven of her eight years in office. Marilyn belonged to many professional organizations and was the first woman admitted to the Kendallville Rotary Club. She was also a 50 year member of the Order of Easter Star, Sylvan Chapter 251. Marilyn was a true professional who faced all obstacles with a smile and never saw a problem she could not address. Heaven will be a much happier place with Marilyn there taking care of everyone’s health care. Marilyn will be missed by all that knew her and loved her.
