ALBION - Freeland Everett Drake, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at his home. Freeland was born in Albion, on Dec. 10, 1916. He was the son of Freeland Putnam and Helen (McDonald) Drake. Freeland was a direct descendant of Washington Drake, the patriarch of one of the first five families of Albion. He attended Albion schools, graduating from Besse High School in 1935. On June 17, 1937, he married Priscilla Lena Rowe. They enjoyed nearly 71 years of marriage before her passing in 2008. He was also predeceased by his parents; a sister, Gertrude; and an infant son.

Freeland was an amazing man who tirelessly served his community. He was an Albion selectman for 50 years. He was a member of the Albion Grange for 80 years, with 36 as treasurer, the Albion Library Board of Trustees, the Albion Senior Citizens, the IOOF, and was on the Board of Directors for Meadow by the Brook. He spent more than 50 years of his life farming and was named Dairyman of the Year in 1977. He was also a member of the KVCOG board, and the Legislative Advisory Group to the Maine Municipal Association. In 2008 he received the Spirit of America Foundation Award.

Freeland will be sadly missed by his four children, Audrey Harding, and her husband, Carroll, of Winslow, Everett Drake and his wife, Gail, of Albion, Janice Dyer and her husband, Henry, of Greenville, and Hilton Drake and his wife, Cindy, of Albion.

He is also survived by his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
