Columbus Drew, M.D., of Jacksonville, was born in the historic city of Richmond on the James, December 3, 1847; son of Columbus, Sr., and Marietta Hume (Robertson) Drew. His father, a prominent editor and litterateur and one of the noted men of his day, was a native of Alexandria, VA., son of Solomon Drew who emigrated from England in 1820. Dr. Drew came to Jacksonville with his parents in 1849 and has since made that city his home. He entered upon the study of medicine in 1865, attending the College of Physicians and Surgeons, of Baltimore, during the years of 1867-69, and graduating in this institution. He also matriculated at the medical department of the University of New York in 1879 and was graduated the same year. Prior to this, Dr. Drew had begun the practice of his profession at Jacksonville, and he has continued at that city to administer to the ills of his fellow men. He is a member of the Duval Medical society, the State Medical association and the American Medical association. In 1872 he was married to Maria T. Carr of St. Augustine and they have one son, Stanton B. Drew, who is following in the footsteps of his father in preparing fur the medical profession.
