Clara K. Diedrich, 99, of DeKalb, died Mon. Oct 22, 1989, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital.
She was born June 13, 1890, near Garryowen, Iowa, the daughter of Dennis and Marie (Byrne) Driscoll. She married Fred L. Diedrich on June 21, 1916, in Dubuque, Iowa.
She graduated from Our Lady of Angel's Academy, Lyons (Clinton), Iowa in 1909 with a teaching certificate. She taught in the rural Iowa School District. She and her husband farmed southeast of DeKalb until June 1949, and then they retired moving to DeKalb. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in DeKalb, the Altar and Rosary Society, a life member of Court Immaculate Conception, Catholic Daughters of America, Court 996. She originally joined the Catholic Daughters in June 1926.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Margaret (Oliver) Carpenter, of DeKalb and Eileen (Cal) Gillen, of Aurora, Colorado; three sons Loras F. (Doris) Diedrich, of Wheaton, Robert J. (Gwyn) Diedrich, both of DeKalb, and John F. (Donna) Diedrich, of Scales Mound, Illinois; 33 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, four sisters, one son, James Arthur Diedrich and three grandchildren.
A mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in DeKalb with Father William H. Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ronan-Moore Mortuary in DeKalb where the Catholic Daughters will recite the rosary at 3 p.m. A wake service will be held at 8 p.m.
