Barbara G. BREHM Obituary

BREHM Barbara G. Barbara G. Brehm, age 85, of Swanton, passed away Monday evening, May 30, 2011, at Swanton Health Care. She was born in Toledo on January 23, 1926, to the late Lawrence I. Driver and Dorothy Mary Ann (Lane) Driver. Barbara graduated from Libbey High School in 1944 and later attended Robinhood Hospital School of Nursing (now known as St. Luke's Hospital), graduating in 1947 as a registered nurse. Barbara worked at the Ohio State University Hospital in the surgery department and later was supervisor of the operating rooms. On June 23, 1951 she married Lowell Brehm, whom survives and they lived on and farmed the home place of 120 acres. Barbara was one of the first women elected to the Delta School Board, and in 1975 was elected president of the P.D.Y. School Board. Her community affiliations included: 4-H leader for 10 yrs, 35 yr. membership to Circle of Friends Homemakers Club, 25 yr. with the Delta Community Garden Club. Lowell and Barbara were life long members of the Fulton County Farm Bureau, the Lucky Seven F.B. Council and enjoyed many years with the Delta Skirts & Shirts Square Dance Club and 58 years in the Card Club with three local couples. In 2008, Barbara was presented with a bronze award for her 4,000 volunteer hours at The Fulton County Health Center. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd L. Driver, Clarence Driver; nephews, Daryl Driver, Mark Christensen and niece, Christine Driver. Among those surviving are her husband, Lowell Brehm; children, Gary (Jenny) Brehm, Gail (Thomas) Elton, Hal (Sara) Brehm; grandchildren, Jody (Said) Rukieh, John (Kimi) Elton, Craig (Nicole) Elton, Scott (Sarah) Elton, Erin (Greg) Clapp, Seth Brehm, Andrew Brehm, Nathan Brehm and eight great grandchildren; siblings, Ruth (John) Christensen, Virginia M. (Lester) Nieman, Lawrence (the late Grace) Driver, Nancy J. (Jerry) Domschort, Doris J. (the late Robert) Brittson. Friends may call 3-5 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Barnes Funeral Chapel, 5825 St. Hwy. 109 in Delta. Prior to the funeral, a graveside service for Barbara will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at 10:00 AM. A memorial service celebrating her life will follow at 11:00 AM at Crossroads Evangelical Church, 845 Leggett St. in Wauseon. Pastor Tyler Quillet will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to Odyssey Hospice, 1745 Indianwood Circle, Suite 200, Maumee, OH 43537, or the Fulton County Hospital Auxiliary, 725 S.
