LANCASTER, Wis. - Leander R. "Lee" Dubel, 57, of Lancaster, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Grant Regional Health Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. Scott Kallem officiating. Burial will be in Bloomington Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Richard Burns American Legion Post 109 and the William Pollock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2344. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Metcalfe-Kuenster-Page Funeral Home, Lancaster, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Feb. 11, 1943, in Prairie du Chien, son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Strodtman) Dubel. He married Kathleen M. Brown on Aug. 26, 1967, in Cassville. They shared 33 years of marriage.

He was commander of the William Pollock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2344 and a member of the Richard Burns American Legion Post 109 of Lancaster. After he served four years of naval service, he worked for Croft's Shur-Sav grocery in Lancaster. He then worked for the Lancaster Police Force for 27 years and retired in 1998.
In 1999, he retired from the Lancaster Fire Department after 28 years. His retirement was spent driving for Ford Garage, and directing traffic at school functions. He also served as the Lancaster city fire inspector. He enjoyed tractor pulls and his other hobbies included toy collecting, hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen, of Lancaster; a son, Kevin, of Lancaster; a daughter, Angela, of Stillwater, Minn.; his stepmother, Nellie (Hank) Bauzek, of Prairie du Chien; and two sisters, Judith (John William) Champion, of Lancaster, Patricia (Jerry) Felder, of Columbus; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, the Rev. Leander and Kezia Strodtman; and paternal grandparents, Rolland and Frankie Dubel.
