Evelyn Bear, age 91, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Centerville Nursing & Rehab Center in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Charlie and Viva(Cross)Earhart on November 23, 1923 near Plano, Iowa. She would graduate from the Centerville High School.
On January 31, 1943, Evelyn was united in marriage to Robert "Fred" Bear in Ottumwa, Iowa. She worked at Toastmaster, The Hallmark Store and many years at The Owl Pharmacy in Centerville. She was a member of Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville and enjoyed being involved in the churches many activities.
Evelyn was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Robert "Fred" Bear on January 19, 1999; and a sister, Alice Hixenbaugh,
She is survived by: her sons, Thomas Bear and his wife, Marcia of Bloomfield, Iowa and Charles Bear and his wife, Sheri of Paw Paw, Michigan; brothers, Zeph Earhart of Centerville, Iowa and Kenneth Earhart of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Meagan Bear of Paw Paw, Michigan, Chris & Mark Bear both of North Liberty, Iowa; also two great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the Schmidt Family Funeral home in Centerville with Rev. Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow at the Jerome Cemetery near Jerome, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 2-8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 pm. Memorials can be made to either Drake Avenue Christian Church or to Drake Public Library and left or mailed to the funeral home.
