Sarah Ioor Earle Campbell, of Grove Road, died February 23, 2007. She was born in Greenville County, and was the daughter of Lila Easley and Marshall Delph Earle. She was the widow of Col. Harry M. Campbell. She was a lifelong resident of Greenville.

She attended Furman University for two years, and graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. At Wesleyan, she studied violin at the Wesleyan Conservatory. She also graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Library Science, and while in New York she studied violin at Juilliard.

She was a charter member of Downtown Baptist Church. She was also a charter member of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, and played violin in the Symphony for 25 years. For many years, she was a member of the Music Club of Greenville, for which she served as treasurer, and played in the string ensemble. For several years, she was counselor of the Woodside Junior Music Club. She was orchestra representative of the Symphony Guild, and for several years she played in the Little Theatre orchestra. Additionally, she was a charter member of the former Greenville Horse Show and Fair Association. In addition to being a talented musician, she was also an accomplished equestrian. In equestrian competitions, she won many awards over a number of years. She was an exceptional animal lover and caretaker, and was always in the company of her many horses, dogs, and cats throughout her life. Earlier in her life, she had been a member of the Furman University library staff as cataloger and part-time reference librarian.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lila Earle Crumpton of Sullivans Island, South Carolina; and a brother, Dr. Marshall D. Earle, Jr. of Palas Verdes Estates, California. She was the last member of her immediate family. She is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Catherine Crumpton Griswell, Dr. Marshall D. Earle, III, John C. Earle, Walter Earle, and Louise Earle Martin. She is also survived by great-nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; and by numerous cousins.

Visitation will be at Mackey Mortuary on March 2, 2007, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Mackey Mortuary Chapel, on March 3, 2007, at 11 a.m. The Reverend David E. Lynch, Jr., will conduct the funeral service. Interment will follow at Springwood Cemetery. Greenville News, February 28, 2007
