SPRINGFIELD - Vera J. Dietel, 88, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at her home.

She was born in Springfield, May 20, 1925 the daughter of Arthur and Nellie Orric Edwards.

She married John C. Dietel in Woodville, MS, Dec. 28, 1942, and he preceded her in death Aug. 23, 2013.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jeffery, and her brother, Gilbert "Bud" Edwards.

Vera was a graduate of Feitchans High School in Springfield. She was a homemaker and of the Christian faith.

She is survived by her children. She has 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Private family services will be held with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, near Riverton.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions in Vera's name to the Simmons Cancer Institute c/o Southern Illinois University Foundation P.O. Box 19666 Springfield, IL 62794-9666 to further the research and treatment of Colorectal Cancer.
