Berta R. Elizondo, 76, a longtime resident of Benavides and a former resident of San Diego, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010 at an Alice nursing home after a long illness. She was formerly employed with La Hacienda and Retama Manor nursing homes and P & S Hospital in Alice, and also provided private home care. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister that will be sadly missed by all her family.
She was preceded in death by father of her children, Oscar Elizondo; one son, Oscar Orlando Elizondo; her parents, Martin and Cristina Ruiz; three brothers, and two sisters.
Berta is survived by her two daughters, Dalia (Chubby) Hernandez of Benavides, Texas; Glenda Elizondo of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Roel "Nono" Elizondo of Corpus Christi, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Margie Elizondo of Benavides, Texas; two brothers, Pablo Ruiz of Alice, Texas; Alberto Mendoza of San Diego, Texas; one sister, Guadalupe Ochoa of McAllen, Texas; one sister-in-law, Rachel Mendoza of San Diego, Texas; one aunt, Adelaida "Lalita" Barrera of San Diego, Texas; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; one niece, Diana T. Cardona of Alice, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 6 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Interment will follow at the Benavides Cemetery.
