Sandra L. Elizondo, 59, a lifetime resident of Benavides, Texas was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 after a short illness. She was a 1968 graduate of Benavides High School, and a graduate of Texas A& I University of Kingsville, Texas. She was employed with Benavides ISD for over 20 years as a school teacher. She was a strong devoted mother, loving grandmother, beloved sister and aunt who always fulfilled everyone's needs before hers. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Elizondo Sr.; her parents, Enrique and Belia Cardenas and her father, Norberto Hernandez Jr. .
Sandra is survived by her children, Tomas (Jodi) Elizondo Jr. of Nyssa, Oregon; Simon (Vickie) Elizondo of San Diego, Texas; Mary Ann (Luis) Garcia of Corpus Christi, Texas; Amy (Jesus) Paz of Floresville, Texas; Oma (Joseph) Garmon of Corpus Christi, Texas; one brother, Norberto "Burt" (Helen) Hernandez III of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Virginia Cardenas of Benavides, Texas; other brothers and sisters, Gloria , Daniel, Ricardo, Vicente, Michael and Sylvia Hernandez; 17 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one aunt, Palmira Carrillo of Alice, Texas; two brothers-in-law, Santos Elizondo Jr. and Robert Elizondo; three sisters-in-law, Olga Elizondo, Mary Garza and Norma Cantu.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 PM on Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM that same evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Interment will follow at the Benavides Cemetery in Benavides, Texas.
