MARY JESSIE (ELLETT) BURGETT
Mary Jessie was the daughter of Benjamin Dabney Ellett and his first wife Grace Eliza Jack. Her mother died when she was only three years old. She was raised by her father and his second wife, Orpha (Myers) Ellett.

SIBLINGS:
Mary had four siblings from her parents. They were: Charles W. b.8/28/1840 – d.6/5/1844 at age 3 yrs,
Henry b.6/6/1843 – d.6/27/1843 at 21 days old,
Charles D. b.11/25/1848 – d.12/4/1850 at age 2 yrs,
Grace Elizabeth b.4/15/1850 – d.8/20/1851 20 mos old.
Mary was the only child of Benjamin and Grace (Jack) Ellett to live to adulthood.

Her father and step mother, Orpha, had nine additional children;
Frank A b.1852 – d.1948, Minnie E. b.1853 – d.1942, Nellie E b.1856 – d.1935, William Benjamin b.1857 – d.1944, Bertha "Betty" Virginia b.1859 – d.1949, Harry Brook b.1860 – d.1951, Edwin Myers b.1864 – d.1955, Frederick D b.1866 – d.1941, and youngest brother Thomas A b.1867 – d.1883 at the age of 15.

After their marriage her father and step mother moved to Keithsburg, where they built their home and raised their children.

Mary married Frederick Porter Burgett, son of Charlotte (Willard) and Hiram Burgett on Dec 20, 1866 in Keithsburg, IL. To this union was born four children; Grace Jack b.1871, Bessie M b.1873 – d.1954, Louis Oliphant b.1875 – d.1935, and Kate Ellett b.1879 – d.1966

OLDEST RESIDENT OF CITY PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Mary J. Burgett, 96, a life resident of this city passed away in her home at 3:10 o'clock this morning. She had been failing in health for several years and death resulted from the infirmities of age.

Funeral services will be held from her late home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon with Rev. H. T. Jackson of Monmouth officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Greenmound Cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Grace Hurff of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. R. E. Bloomer of Keithsburg and Mrs. William Ranney Smith of Grand Ridge, 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. There are also two half-sisters and five half-brothers. They are Mrs. Minnie Rice of Louisville, KY., Miss Betty Ellett, Frank, Harry, Will, Fred and Ed Ellett of Keithsburg.

Her husband Frederick P. Burgett died in 1918 and her son Louis Burgett passed away in 1935.

Mrs. Burgett was the oldest native resident of Keithsburg and of Mercer County. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Ellett were actively identified with it's early history.
