Whitt was the son of Ken and Bette Whitt Ellett and the grandson of the late Austin and Ruth Whitt of Ardmore, Tennessee. He was a 1987 graduate of Ardmore High School (Alabama). Whitt was living and working in Murfreesboro, Tennessee at the time of his death. He was killed in an automobile accident. Whitt's ashes were buried and/or scattered near the tree planted in his memory.
