Benny Roger "Coach" Ely, 64, was called home on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. He was committed to his family, friends and Rock of Ages Church family, as well as a devoted Soldier for Christ and a dedicated fan of the Oakland Raiders.

He was preceded in death by: his father Benton Herbert Ely; his brother Dennis Lynn Ely; and his sister Glenda Mae Juanita Ely.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Jo Ely; sons, Jonathan (Micheline) Parkey and Benjamin "Chad" (Chandra) Jones; daughters, Misha (Billy) Fanney and Kemi Ely (Michael Chandler); brothers, William (Megan) Ely and Joseph (Tonya) Ely; sister, Debbie from Ohio; grandchildren, Cha, Corey, Austin, Tamia, Jamya, Miles, Theo, Cobi, Aleah and Kaelynn; godmother, Dorothy Richmond; uncle, William "Pressie" Fugate; aunt, Diane (Charles) Treece of Murfreesboro; a host of devoted relatives, friends and neighbors of Kennedy Circle.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Dockery Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment will be at City Cemetery. The Rev. William P. Butler and the Rev. Gregory Cox will be officiating.
