Keith and Sonja "Jeannie" Mogard were married on Aug 14, 1967. To this union two children, Tracy Renee and Brian Charles "Charlie" were born. After a four year stint in the Navy, Keith worked for the Highway Department in Medicine Bow, WY before following his father's footsteps by going into law enforcement. Keith served with the Wyoming Highway Patrol from July 12, 1973 until retiring September 14, 1998.
Keith and Jeannie moved north of Laramie where they began Emerson Angus, raising, selling and breeding Black Angus cattle. They always had an assortment of animals including dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, horses and the cattle. Keith was very active and supportive of the Albany County 4-H Association. Keith was also a long time member of American Legion Post 64 (Medicine Bow, WY) and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Keith often said that he was born 100 years too late, and would have loved to have lived as a Mountain Man. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman along with his Dad and siblings, who would spend at least a week in the Laramie Peak area every year hunting. He passed on his love of the great outdoors to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was fortunate to hunt and harvest a big horn sheep along with his many deer and elk, as well as going on several moose hunts.
After Jeannie’s passing, Keith married Cheryl Schey. They shared a deep love for the Lord and many adventures. Their time was initially split between their home in Alaska and the ranch in Laramie. Many a fish was caught in the waters close to their home in Alaska, although not all were landed. Each fish brought a smile to Keith’s face, and another story for him to share. There was always “The one that got away”. They sold their Alaska home and the ranch in Wyoming, and moved to Athol, Idaho in 2011 in order to be closer to both families. The fishing in N. Idaho was enjoyed by both. Keith’s cowboy hat was traded for a halo, but he probably still has a fishing pole in hand.
Keith was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents Sherrill and Eva Mae (Marshall) Emerson, son Charlie, wife Jeannie Emerson, and sister-in-law Connie Emerson, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Emerson of Athol, Idaho; daughter Tracy Simpson, grandchildren Danille Johnson and Isaiah Thomas, and great grandchildren Malachi, Genesis, Cytari, and Patrick all of Fort Collins, Colorado; brothers Randy Emerson, Don and Deb Emerson of Rock River, sister Phyllis (Emerson) and Mark Young of Oran, Mo. as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
