Edward David Evans was Company Sergeant Major in the 7th Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry. Prior to the war, he had been employed at a bank. He enlisted at Carmarthen in September, 1914 along with his dear friend, David Rees Davies. His Battalion fought at the Actions of the Bluff and at the Saint Eloi Craters before moving to the Somme. There, they fought at the Battle of Albert. On July 14,1916, Edward's company came under heavy machine gun fire while caught on barbed wire. Edward was killed that day, a few weeks after the death of his friend David, who enlisted with him. Edward is memorialized on the Thiepval Memorial in France.
