She graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1936 she attended Kearney State Teachers College for one year. She taught in the Pleasanton area for two years. She continued working towards her degree by attending pre-sessions, post-sessions, and seminars for many years. Erma received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1969.
In 1941 Erma moved to Keith County where she taught at District #14 Sunnyslope and Cottonwood Corner for several years. She then taught school in the Madrid Junior High. After nine years the family moved to Brule. Mrs. Evert taught in the Day School north of Grant and in 1959 began a long teaching career in the Brule School system. Her years of being a teacher and media specialist totalled more than fifty years. She was a sponsor of National Honor Society for many years and a member of "Who's Who of American Teachers." Mrs. Evert continued to serve as a substitute teacher many years after her retirement and also received her media specialist endorsement.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Roy in 1983, four sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include her children: LaVon (Richard) Kampfe of Sidney; Dennis Evert and John Evert, both of Ogallala. A sister Doris Macy of
Ogallala. Six grandchildren: Patrick Mogus of Ogallala, Jolynn (Shane) Woolery of Sterling, CO; Diane (Jeff) Hradecky of Iliff, CO; Paul (LeAnn) Kampfe of Sidney, Chaz Evert and Bill Philips, both of Ogallala.
Four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Also numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
