"Death of Mrs. T. W. BATES. // Mrs. BATES, wife of Mr. T. W. BATES, book-keeper at the Merchants and Mechanics' bank, died at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, leaving an infant only a few hours old. Mrs. BATES, formerly Miss Katie FABER, was married a little over a year ago, and her death is, indeed a terrible blow to the young husband. Mrs. BATES was a sweet, noble christian woman, and was a member of Trinity Episcopal church. She had hosts of friends, whose full sympathies go out to the bereaved families. May the Great Comforter soften the grief of the bereaved ones, and watch over the little motherless babe. . . FUNERAL NOTICES: BATES--The friends and acquaintances of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. BATES, Mrs. E. A. FABER, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. BATES, are respectfully invited to attend the funeral of the latter from Trinity Episcopal church this (Tuesday) afternoon, at 4:30 o'clock." [Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Tuesday, 17 APR 1888, pp. 1 & 4.]
Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: Mrs. BATES, female, died aged 19 years in childbirth; buried 17 APR 1888 in Section C, Lot 36 - Sexton Abraham ODOM. [Galer's source was the sexton's card file (an index). The original burial record mentions this individual was born in Georgia and was buried as a resident of Columbus, Georgia (so probably died there).]
Buried in a lot with her parents and other FABER kin. Her husband and his second wife are buried the same Sexton's lot - Section C, Lot 36 - but are reported in an adjacent practical lot: Dolores Autry's Section K, Lot 26 "BATES" on step - see her "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book, Volume 3.
